How does in-house mobile grooming work?
Contact me for a consultation where we will book your appointment. I will turn up with all my equipment, all you need to provide is a bath or shower and a space to set up my table in.
If you think your dog would have any difficulty standing for the entirety of the groom, please inform us and we will give them regular breaks, or we can split the groom into multiple appointments.
-
Can I stay with my dog throughout the groom?
Of course, I am at your house so you can come and go as you please. In some cases, having the owner present can increase the dog’s anxiety and reactivity, in this case I will ask you to leave the room for the remainder of the groom. If I feel that staying with your dog is a good option, you must follow all instructions given to you to prevent accidents.

Why does my dog seem tired/subdued after their groom?
It is totally normal for your dog to feel tired after a groom. They’ve been on their feet throughout the process which is tiring in itself, and have been using a lot of mental energy to stand calmly. Some dogs can get the ‘zoomies’ after a groom, this is just them relieving tension after their sustained concentration.
If your dog appears itchy or irritated after the groom please inform me so that I can help you to resolve this issue.
-
My dog has had surgery can they still be groomed?
Please speak to your vet before booking your dog in for a groom post-surgery, they are the best authority to tell you this. Generally, dogs are okay to groom 2 weeks post-surgery although this many vary depending on the procedure.

Why can’t you brush the matting out?
In line with the Animal Welfare Act, Good Dog will not subject any dog to extensive de-matting attempts as these can cause considerable pain and distress to the dog, as well as causing micro-tears to the skin. There is a chance the skin underneath the matting may become irritated, Good Dog will be as careful as possible but it is important to know that the possibility of injury exists and that we will not be held responsible. We reserve the right to refuse service to an excessively matted dog and refer the dog for a groom under veterinary supervision.
-
What if my dog gets stressed out during the groom?
If your dog is showing excessive signs of stress, I will stop the groom and allow them to free roam to reset for 5 minutes. If they return to a high-level of stress after this break we may have to stop the groom. I will work with you to put a plan in place to ensure your dog has a less stressful experience for their next appointment.
-
My dog is pregnant can they still be groomed?
I cannot groom your dog if they are pregnant, grooming can be a stressful experience for dogs which can put a pregnant dog at risk of miscarriage or complications. If you are planning to breed your dog, please inform me so we can book her in for a pre-pregnancy groom to ensure her comfort throughout her pregnancy.
-
Why is my puppy not able to have the style I want on the 1st visit?
The grooming process involves a lot of new sights, sounds and sensations for a puppy. It’s important to introduce these things to a puppy slowly to ensure a low-stress experience to set them up for a lifetime of good grooming experiences. Every puppy is different and will tolerate a different amount of handling. They may need a few appointments with Good Dog before they are ready for a full groom. We will work with you to tailor a plan for your puppy.
-
Why is my elderly dog not able to have the same groom as usual?
In their old age dogs can struggle with a variety of health issues such as arthritis, pain in the eyes and mouth, doggy dementia, and coat change. This will mean grooming becomes more about comfort than style. Elderly dogs are at increased risk of stress seizures triggered by the loud sound of the drier which may mean we need to style your dog without bathing and drying first. We will discuss the options for your dog in advance of their appointment.
